I am one of the few honest people that i have ever known

Not only Nick claims his honesty and care, but also Jordan once says to him, вЂњ I hate careless people. Regarding all the other вЂњ carelessвЂќ people he knows he can justly say, вЂњ I am one of the few honest people that I have ever knownвЂќ (Gatsby, 66). He also acts according to that when he thinks that he loves Jordan he is eager to вЂњ get self out of that tangle back homeвЂќ (Gatsby, 65) before being able to contract a relationship with her.

He only forbears that the people in the story -except Gatsby- donвЂ™t conform to the вЂњ fundamental decenciesвЂќ (Gatsby, 7), which were taught to him by his father. The narrator himself responds to this question at the very beginning by assuring that he is вЂњ inclined to reserve all judgmentsвЂќ (Gatsby, 7), and that turns out to be true, as he reports rather objective. As this is not a popular way for telling a story, the reader could possibly ask himself if Nick is reliable. The crucial thing about Nick is that he has an exceptional position even though he acts as a narrator, he is not really the protagonist. Moreover, I intend to examine to what extent they are influenced by money and that this matter, that plays such a great role in their lives, finally makes them collapse.

In the following I will describe how the characters are linked with one another and which specialties they posses. All main characters in вЂњThe Great GatsbyвЂќ are somehow connected to each other, whatever relationship they have or donвЂ™t have.
